We’d like to think that law enforcement considers our safety when deciding whether to hold a criminal versus releasing them. But that, sadly, is not always the case, as a recent scene from what could have been a horror movie was played out following an online meeting that led to a “date.”
45-year-old Anatoliy Ezhkov is free on bail after what must be one of the most violent meetings ever. Apparently high on psychotic drugs of some kind, Ezhkov literally bit a woman close to death. She only escaped being choked because he couldn’t grip her neck firmly enough, due to all the blood pouring out from where he’d bitten off parts of her nose and ears.
It all began online, when Ezhkov, who lives in a communal hostel, invited 41-year-old nurse Irina Gonchar to dine with him at his tiny apartment in Kurgan, which is located in central Russia. But once inside, he made her tipsy with drinks, then beat her up and tied her up with cord. He then proceeded to imitate some of the most grotesque criminals you can think of by biting off parts of her fingertips and facial features, likely leaving her disfigured for life.
He even bit her shoulders, taking massive pieces flesh off there as well, using nothing but his teeth. The crazed lunatic went on with the horrible attack for four solid hours, as the woman screamed helplessly for someone to save her. Sadly, although the hostel neighbors did hear her, they paid her no mind for quite a while, saying they were used to such screams from the drug addicts who frequented their living space.
Finally, police were called, but the nightmare doesn’t really end there. In spite of everything that had just happened for hours on end, which left Irina with broken ribs, massive wounds, and a concussion, Ezhkov, after questioning, was simply released on bail until his hearing.
Irina’s family, needless to say, were both shocked and perturbed that cops would allow someone so violent to simply walk out of the police station. “How could the cops let him go? What if he breaks into her flat after she is sent home and tries to kill her?” wailed one family member who understandably didn’t want to be identified.
Another woman who lives in the area concurred.
“I am shocked with this story and even more shocked he was released. The family urgently needs to contact the prosecutor’s office in Moscow, if local lawmakers are not qualified enough,” the woman said.
Law enforcement, meanwhile, has refused to comment, except for confirming that the crimes did occur.
